That Kappa Feeling

Exactly why we give can be hard to answer in one sentence. Katie Smith Lambert, Oklahoma, explains that she caught “that Kappa feeling” when she pledged in 1961. It’s been with her ever since and it’s why she supports the Kappa Foundation.

For Katie, Kappa is about sisterhood and the connections you make around the world — even when you least expect it. The friendships Katie has made over the years are what keep her close to this organization. She’s met so many people through Kappa and has loved it. Katie also says there’s something special about clicking with a woman you just met to then discover you’re both Kappas. Like when a woman asked Katie to watch her bag while she went to the restroom at the Arizona airport. They got to talking and realized they were both Kappas. “I even saw she had a tote bag from a Convention that I had too,” says Katie.

Bonds of friendship, sisterhood, connection and love — Kappa has given all these to Katie and it’s why she’s chosen to give back now through the Annual Loyalty Fund and made Kappa a beneficiary in her estate plan.

“You see the money you give is going to help people,” Katie says.

The Kappa Foundation inspires women to spark change and empowers them to pursue life’s opportunities. Established programs — such as member education, scholarships, aid and grants, and heritage preservation — offer members resources and support at every stage of their lives.
