Robin Miller Marshall, Akron, entered college with a goal: Work part time, pay for school as she attended and graduate debt-free. Robin knew it would be tough but was dedicated to earning her degree. Thankfully, along the way, Kappa was there to lend a helping hand with a scholarship from the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.

“I was surprised and excited to be chosen,” Robin says, adding that receiving the scholarship gave her an immense amount of relief and gratitude.

James Wallace Barnett created the Joyce Wortman Barnett, Akron, Scholarship in his late wife’s name. As the first Barnett scholarship recipient, Robin says, “I was so thankful to be supported...I wish I would have connected with Mr. Barnett to affirm that it was a good investment.”

Robin has always felt strongly about education and sees the value of investing in it. Thanks to her education and degree — and the role Kappa played in it — Robin has had a successful career in accounting.

To pay it forward, Robin has included the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation in her estate plan to fund future scholarships benefitting members of Lambda Chapter, Akron, who have declared a major within the College of Business Administration.

“For the women who are serious about their education and aim to better themselves, I’d like to play a small part in supporting their success,” Robin says.
